Mm listening to: Typical by Tickle Me Pink. Impairing my judgment, perhaps?

She hurries to put on her makeup. Bright dangerous lipstick smears messily across her lips, blush patted profusely across angular cheeks—clown makeup.
“He’s not coming, you know,” I tell her. A precious mother-daughter moment, I think nastily.
She glares.
Thirty minutes pass. I’m not really watching television. A gruesome sort of bitterness rises up in my chest but I’m quiet. Two hours pass, and she’s watching the door like a lonesome puppy-dog. As if his abandonment was news.
“He never comes, you know.”
“Don’t get fresh with me!”
I shrug. “Just bein’ honest. You hate it when I’m honest.”

Wow, that’s a rough scene. Beautifully written; it conveys a lot in a few words.
Ouch! Very potent writing. I wanted more — I want it to work out — I need to fix this scene. Could it be that I’ve lived simular scenes??? Well done. I’m new to 100 Words but I’m enjoying reading each entry. Much food for thought and walks down memory lane.
ah. The mother/daughter dynamic. I’ve been on both sides now. Being a daughter I was sometimes judgmental of my mother’s ways. Never had a scene like that particularly, but still had moments where I felt just like that towards her. Now as a mother with a daughter, I realize being grown-up is not straightforward at all. It’s a complex juicy mess that one just tries to navigate as best they can.
Powerful piece.
